Dann Florek was born on 1 May 1950 in Flat Rock, Michigan, U.S.A. He is married to Karen, an artist. He is the brother of Dave, an actor. He joined the Eastern Michigan University but did not complete his studies from there. He was keen to start his career in acting and he moved to New York City.
Though he did not graduate from the Eastern Michigan University, he received an honorary Bachelor of Arts degree from the same university in 2008. He received it from President Susan Martin and the Board of registrants of EMU, and on the next day, he was also honored with Doctorate of Arts from the same university by President Susan Martin.
Dann, his wife and Dann’s brother has taken training in the Daniel L. Quirk Jr. drama school at Eastern Michigan University.
He performed in the theatre and then moved on to do supporting role in films like, ‘Sweet Liberty‘, ‘Moon Over Parador’ and ‘Angel Heart’. He appeared in ‘L.A Law’ for a short period, and then co-starred in ‘Law and Order’ as “Capt. Don Cragen“. He has also directed a few episodes of ‘Law and Order’ in 1994 and 1995. He was also seen in ‘Eddie Macon’s Run’, ‘Five Corners’, ‘Fight of the Intruder’ , ‘Getting Even With Dad’, ‘Hard Rain’, ‘Focus Room‘, ‘Copy That’, etc.
