Paul Sorvino was born on 13 April 1939, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, U.S.A. He is the son of Ford Sorvino and Marietta. His parents are Italian Americans, and his father was a robe factory foreman and his mother was a piano teacher and a homemaker. He has studied at the Lafayette High School and later at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
He is the husband of Lorraine Davis, and the father of three children - Mira, Michael and Amanda. Mira has performed along with him in the television series ‘Law and Order’. It was reported in 2007, that George displayed a gun on Daniel Snee, his daughter Amanda’s ex-boyfriend, because he pounded on her hotel door and made threats. Out of Panic, Amanda called the police and her father for her help, and Daniel Snee was arrested by the police.
George and his daughter Amanda lobbied along with Americans Against Horse Slaughter, in March- 2008, in Washington, DC for passing the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act by the Congress and the Senate. They run a private horse rescue in Gilbert, Pennsylvania. George can make sculptures of cast bronze. He is the founder of Paul Sorvino Asthma Foundation, which focuses on building asthma centers for adults and children across the United States.
He performed on Broadway for the first time, in the musical ‘Bajour‘ in 1964. Prior to that, he was a copywriter in an advertising agency. John Margeotes, the founder of Margeotes, Fertitta, and Weiss, has worked with him, in the same advertising agency. His first film role was for ‘Where’s Poppa?’. In 1972, he performed for the Broadway play ‘That Championship Season’.
He has acted in the TV Series ‘Law and Order’ as “Phil Cerreta” and in the weekly series ‘We’ll Get By‘, ‘Bert D’Angelo/Superstar’, ‘Moonlighting‘ and ‘The Oldest Rookie‘. He was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival. He also has earned the Award of Excellence in the Bearfest - Big Bear Lake International Film Festival 2001. He achieved the Outstanding Achievement Award for Acting in the Los Angeles Italian Film Awards - 2003.
