Series returns with season 8 on 9-24-1997 with the episode entitled ‘Thrill’. Season 8 comes without any cast changes and brings the third Emmy award for outstanding cinematography.  In addition to this, series also starts tackling the real life issues which were in current news. Season starts when two strong-armers do kill a delivery boy and his murder is being investigated by Briscoe and Curtis. Rey’s wife is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  Season finale was entitled ‘Monster’ and was aired on 5-20-1998. In this season finale, a 10 year old gal is raped by a pedophile and during his search for that pedophile; a telltale gives Briscoe a chance to retaliate his own daughter’s death.  Van Buren discovers that his job is in danger; because of his behavior in a DUI case, McCoy is ordered to appear in front of a disciplinary committee.  Schiff worries that rape case may have dangerous impacts on his reelection bid.
